Insurance is an important part of gaining peace of mind and security for you and your family. Here are some questions that we get asked that we hope will help you decide which insurance options are most suitable for you.

Which insurance company should I choose?

Every insurer offers policies that have different exclusions, terms and conditions, costs and policy requirements. It is important to research which products meet your requirements, but also which insurance company offers you the best policies most appropriate for your circumstances. How do I know if my home is adequately insured?

Many people are under-insured because they do not realise the actual value of replacing all the items in their home, their car or the price to rebuild their home if a total loss were to occur. It is important to do your homework as ultimately you are responsible for selecting the right cover for your needs. Here are a few tips that may help you assess what cover you require:

  • List the contents of every room and estimate their replacement value. This will help when you are renewing your policy, to check whether the total cover is adequate as well as a prompt to ask whether high value items are covered;
  • The value of your home can increase over time especially if you have done a major renovation or upgrade. It is worth considering whether your level of insurance needs to be increased; and
  • Construction costs increase each year so the replacement cost of your home should reflect this. To get an idea of what it would cost to replace your home assistance can be sought from a variety of sources including tradespersons, building advisory services and consultants. There are also online calculators on real estate sites that may help you obtain an estimate of the costs to replace your property.

Of course, our helpful LFI consultants are ready to answer any questions you may have on 1300 888 318.

Having the right cover can help you get back on your feet quickly and recover from unforeseen events. It’s often only at times when disaster strikes that most people realise they do not have the correct level of insurance and or even that they are under-insured.
This is why checking your insurance cover on a regular basis, at least every year, is highly recommended. For more information about an appropriate insurance policy or cover for you, please call one of our friendly LFI consultants on 1300 888 318.
